چکیده

Methods Between February 2012 and February 2013, 27 patients undergoing Total cavopulmonary connection without cardiopulmonary bypass (off-pump group) were compared with propensity score matched 27 patients undergoing Total cavopulmonary connection on cardiopulmonary bypass (on-pump group). Outcome parameters studied were inotropic score, time to extubation, intensive care unit stay, mediastinal drainage in the intensive care unit, daily pleural drainage, time to removal of chest tubes, hospital stay and saturation at discharge.

Cross-sectional echocardiographic diagnosis and subclassification of univentricular hearts: imaging studies of atrioventricular valves, septal structures and rudimentary outflow chambers.

We reviewed anatomic observations (surgical or autopsy), angiograms and echocardiograms from 44 patients with documented univentricular hearts. Thirty-three patients had univentricular heart of left ventricular type with an outflow or rudimentary chamber. Five had univentricular heart of right ventricular type, and six had univentricular heart of indeterminate types without a rudimentary chambe...

Is the extracardiac conduit the preferred Fontan approach for patients with univentricular hearts? The extracardiac conduit is not the preferred Fontan approach for patients with univentricular hearts.

There is, perhaps, no disease entity that better exemplifies the complexities, challenges, and creative innovations characteristic of the evolution in congenital heart disease care than the univentricular heart. The univentricular heart encompasses an array of uncommon and severe inborn cardiac malformations that share a similar physiology, with pulmonary and systemic venous return predominantl...

Is the extracardiac conduit the preferred Fontan approach for patients with univentricular hearts? The extracardiac conduit is the preferred Fontan approach for patients with univentricular hearts.

Fontan palliation for single-ventricle patients was first described in 1971.1 The original approach was in the form of a classic atriopulmonary Fontan connection, bypassing the nonfunctional right ventricle. After recognizing the long-term complication of an atriopulmonary connection (right atrial dilation, arrhythmias, and thrombus formation), modifications have been made. The atriopulmonary c...

“Functionally” Univentricular Hearts: Impact of Pre-Natal Diagnosis

Within the last few decades the pre-natal echocardiographic diagnosis of congenital heart defects has made substantial progresses, particularly for the identification of complex malformation. "Functionally" univentricular hearts categorize a huge variety of heart malformations. Since no one of the patients with these congenital heart defects can ever undergo a bi-ventricular type of repair, ear...

Tracheal Chondrosarcoma Excised With Extracorporeal Circulation

Introduction: Tracheal chondrosarcoma (TCS) is a rare malignancy, with only 19 cases described in the literature to date. Case presentation: Herein, we presented the third-largest TCS with such an airway compromise that neither orotracheal intubation nor jet ventilation or even tracheostomy was possible. So, extracorporeal circulation was needed to excise the tumor in a one-stage procedure. Th...
